Your tax dollars at work

Name:

I basically have a pretty good life. I have a job that pays me enough to keep me in books, beer, and wine; I have great friends who don't mind my quirks; I live in a great city with tons of fun things to do. Life is good.

Always a good idea

My friends know I always like to point out instances of your tax dollars at work, and the great state of Texas is an excellent perch from which to do this. Right now my tax dollars are paying for my city council to tell me I can't smoke in a bar. I understand that second-hand smoke is dangerous, but it's a bar; I don't complain about there being children at McDonald's (well, I do, but a lot of good it does me). I mean, seriously, this is Texas, not California. And this is Houston, not Dallas. Hopefully my favorite bars will take the private club loophole, I'd pay a nominal fee for that.
